Revisions to the U.S. T86 Policy

To help you better understand the latest U.S. T86 policy adjustments and how they affect your order, we have prepared the following explanatory document. Please read it carefully before placing your order to familiarize yourself with the relevant tariff policies and fee changes, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free shopping experience.

I. Policy Background and Recent Developments

The U.S. T86 policy was originally implemented to allow small parcels valued at less than $800 to enter the country duty-free through simplified customs clearance procedures. However, the U.S. government recently announced that the T86 policy will be eliminated, requiring all packages to be subject to duty regardless of their value. This policy change aims to strengthen regulations on low-value goods and increase tariff revenue.

Recent Updates:

    • Temporary Policy Reinstatement: On February 8, 2025, the U.S. government announced a temporary reinstatement of Policy T86, allowing packages valued under $800 to continue being cleared duty-free until the customs system is fully equipped to handle the additional tariff collections.

    • Future Uncertainty: Despite the temporary reinstatement, the T86 policy may be revoked again in the future. Businesses and individuals should remain aware of potential risks and plan accordingly.

II. Impact of the Policy on Your Order

1. Changes in Tariffs and Fees

Orders valued at $800 or less: Currently, these orders are temporarily exempt from customs duties, but tax collection may resume in the future.

Orders valued over $800: Customs duties must be paid. The specific costs include:

    • General Duty: Typically 2.5%–6% of the declared order value.

    • Section 301 Duty: Typically 7.5%–100% of the declared order value.

    • IEEPA Duty: Typically 10% of the declared order value.

    • Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF): 0.3464% of the declared order value, ranging from $32.71 to $634.62.

    • Other fees: May include Disbursement Fees, Forwarding Surcharges, Multi-Entry Fees, Customs Declaration Fees, etc.

2. Customs Clearance Timeframe
Policy adjustments may complicate the customs clearance process, potentially causing delays for some shipments. We recommend planning your shipment schedule in advance to avoid delays in receiving your goods.

3. Logistics Costs
Logistics companies may impose additional charges, such as customs clearance handling fees and tariff deposits. The exact amounts will be determined by the logistics company’s notification.

4. Special Instructions
If your order exceeds $800 and any single item in the shipment is valued at more than $250, you will also need to provide an Importer’s Number with either an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or a Social Security Number (SSN) during the declaration process. While most items on our website are low in unit value and typically do not exceed $250, we recommend preparing this information in advance as a precaution.
